March projects for Lydia Guijt!

Hello Blue Fern Studios friends!
Lydia Guijt here again with some new creations for March.
My first layout will be accompanied with a tutorial. You'll find that below.

For my second feature I've made something completely different. I hope you'll like it.

Memories

The new Spring Parade Collection has a beautiful color combination. For this layout I chose the Susie's Garden sheet.
For my background I started off using the Tattered Harlequin stamp for embossing and the Tattered News Print stamp for inking. After this I used a stencil and paste. After the background work is done I prepared the chipboard pieces.

Crossing the Lines with Speckled Mint and some Peacock FeathersWild Field Stem with Lavender Eggs on the flower part and Verdant with some sprinkling of Antique Gold. The same process for the Leafy Twigs. The title Memories - Chunky Words Halftone was done in Pink Dust. Once that was all done it was time to assemble the layout. I used the new Spring Peonies and Late Winter Lilies in my flower cluster. To finish off the page I added some further touches.

Below you'll find the video with the whole process of making this layout.
Enjoy!

Follow your Heart

For my second project I wanted to do something different.
Our Blue Fern Studios Chipboard is so nice and sturdy, it's perfect to use for Mixed Media projects.
I got a double sided canvas and tore out the center to open it up. I used pastes and stencils to created textures on the outside and center part. Once it was all dry I started with the Shabby Bits Bricks Chipboard pieces as the bast to build the center part on.

Using other materials like cardboard and metal embellishments stacking and tucking in and under to create interest and textures. On one of the top layers a couple of Leafy Page Accents. Around the edges I used the Note book Edges and having the Layering Stems fall over the edges.

With all the items in place and stuck down it was time to paint everything with black gesso. Once that was all dry it's time paint on all the the accents. The Follow your Heart title was first embossed and further highlighted with some acrylics and pastes.

Spring Greetings

For the last project this month I decided to make a set of cards using the new Spring Parade collection.

I started of with cutting different sizes of paper and played around with them creating a layered look. Once it was right I started filling it in with some doilies and some lace. For the Easter card I used one of the Easter Egg Ornaments and embossed it with Lavender Egg. Giving it some extra glitter with Peacock Feathers. The Spring card has a Spring Trinkets chipboard piece and is treated the same way.

To finish off the cards I used Later Winter Lilies and Soft Blossoms and some other decorations. The final touches were some mist splatters and we're all done with our card set.

~ Hello, September with Sandi ~

Hello, hello!
Thanks so much for coming by the blog today.
Sandi here with you today sharing my September creations.
It is always so exciting to go in my scrap room and play with my Blue Fern Studios projects!
I love being a part of this team.

"Summer Vacation, Lucy Style"

First up: I haven't done a "Lucy" page in a while, so this old photo of Lucy fishing is perfect for using my Seaside Cottage papers. I've used both sides of the Splendor paper so that I could slit the grooves between the wood panels and distress them a bit. I've only used a minimal amount of mixed media so that the beautiful images would be dominant. Just a bit of colorizing with Cotton Candy Imagine Mist and stenciling.

To get a uniform look, all three pieces of chipboard were treated the same way. First they were primed with white gesso, then heat embossed with a combination of Ginger and Chili Powder Embossing Powder. The large lantern from the Seaside Lanterns set got a heavier dose of Chili Powder, It was simply tucked in amongst my flowers and other paper layers.  The Harvest Lilies are new to the store and they seemed to work perfectly for this layout!

I thought the chain and lantern would complete the corner of this page and indeed, they fit beautifully and balanced the design.

I love the chunky look of the Summer Vacation chipboard and tried to give it a bit more ombre' look with my two powders. I left sections of the chipboard less heated for an interesting texture.

A good close-up of the dimension you can achieve with your layers, chipboard and flowers. The photo was framed with Seaside Cottage Mermaid and Calling Cards.

Blue Fern Studios Products used:

Paper: Seaside Cottage Splendor, Mermaid, Calling Cards
Chipboard: Seaside Lanterns, Summer Vacation
Embossing Powder: Ginger, Chili Powder
Mist: Cotton Candy
Flowers: Harvest Lilies

"Fall Memories"

My granddaughter KK loves her horses! She recently sent a few photos that I'm sure she's hoping to see on some scrapbook pages! LOL I pulled out one of my favorite collections … Autumn Anthology because I knew it would work perfectly with her blue checked shirt and her horse's coat. Because I had a wide section of blue background using the Robin paper, I was able to do some simple stenciling without covering up any pretty images. The Mercantile paper is an absolute fave of mine and I've torn it into strips. It's a busy design but the colors and images are wonderful.

I have a lot of layers of chipboard going here and it's hard to photograph because they are semi-covered with the photo layer. But I used the Mini Ring Things as a bottom left layer and also around the edges of the page. These were inked and embossed with Ginger and given a smidgen bit of Burnt Copper Glitter for shine. The next layer, other than the paper was the Flourish Medley piece which was cut in half to lengthen it. It was embossed with Ebony Embossing Powder as well as Ginger, topped off with bits of the Burnt Copper Glitter. The Collage Frame was treated the same and is directly beneath my matted photo.

I wanted to share just a closer view of the frame and flourish pieces. They look divine in real life!

For flowers, I combined some of the Tranquil Blooms with our Seaside Lilies. A Calling Card serves as my title.

I'm hooked on these side views because depth, layers and texture are "my thing!"

Chipboard: Mini Ring Things, Collage Frame, Flouirsh Medley

"Remember Moments"

This "Mermaid" paper has become the signature paper from the Seaside Cottage collection and I love it! My original intent was to use it for an old photo of my dad but that will have to come another time …. once I get more of these papers. However, I was itching to scrap this brother and sister photo taken near a beach. Photo credit to the Souza's photographer, name unknown.

Since everyone has already used this paper, I decided to "go big or go home" and used the large title "Remember Moments." Otherwise, it's actually a quite simple page. Under my photo I've used the Crossing the Lines chipboard. Both of these large pieces were inked and treated with some old rusting powders.

Seaside Gala and Calling Cards papers were torn and tucked under my photo and on top of the chipboard. Cheesecloth was used as a base. I'm loving how versatile the Blue Fern Studios lilies are.

A close-up of the title and also a view of some of the random stamping.

The stenciling is light but yet ties the theme together. Now this layout is headed off to this sister who is missing her brother while he's away on the mission field.

Blue Fern Studios Products used:

Paper: Seaside Cottage Mermaid, Gala, Calling Cards
Chipboard: Remember Moments, Crossing the Lines
Flowers: Dark Tropic, Late Winter and Seaside Lilies, Courtship blooms
Stamp: Widgets

That's all for now!
See you next month!

Three layouts by Marie-Josée

Hello, Blue Fern Studios fans!

Today, I am featuring three layouts created with the latest three Blue Fern Studios paper collections: Courtship Lane, Serendipity, and Timeless.

Happy (Timeless collection)

For this layout, I used the Timeless collection. I have to admit that this one is my all-time favorite BFS collection! I used a picture of my grandmother, taken in 1936.

As you can see, I created many layers under the picture with various Timeless papers. I used the Artistic paper for the background.

You must have notice that I love the look of bare chipboards on my layouts. Here, I also used bare chipboards from two different sets: two pieces of the Turkish Bits set, and the word Happy, from The Optimist Word Set.

Moment inoubliable (Serendipity collection)

For this layout, I used the Serendipity collection. For the background, I used the Glee paper.

Under the picture, I used the Crossing the Lines chipboard, which I did not alter.

For the title, I used two words from the French Words set, Moment and inoubliable. I altered them with Blue Fern Studios embossing powder. I used the color Breeze.

Family (Courtship Lane)

Unlike many people, I LOVE purple! Thus, I was really happy when Blue Fern Studios introduced the Courtship Lane collection, because it has lots of purple.

I used the West Plaza paper for the background.

Under the picture, I used pieces of chipboard from the Frolic Mesh set.

That's all for today! I hope you enjoyed my projects! :)

Three layouts, three collections by Marie-Josee

Hello, Blue Fern Studios fans!

Today, I will show you three layouts I created with the latest Blue Fern Studios collections!

"Happy" layout with the Serendipity collection

Here's the layout I created with the latest collection, Serendipity. I used the Imagination paper as my background, with I altered with black ink and the Arcadia Textures stamps.

The chipboard I used in the background is the Turkish Panel. I used only a part of it.

I altered it first with a black ink pad. Then, I used the Sea Mist embossing powder on top. I did not cover it completely. I wanted to see some black.

For the title, I used a chipboard from the Happy, Heart, Love chipboard set. I altered with a black ink pad, and I also added teal spray ink.

"Love" layout with the Blush collection:

For the background of this layout, I used the Charmed paper from the Blush collection.

I used the Frilly Hearts chipboard set as the focal point of my layout. First, I altered them with light pink paint. Then, I embossed them with the Cotton Candy embossing powder. Using the Brocade Texture stamp, I added patterns here and there with embossing ink and color using the Fuchsia embossing powder.

"Dream Big" layout with the Timeless collection

The background of this layout is made of recycled cardboard, which I altered with various mediums.

I used scraps of paper of the Timeless collection that were left after I created other layouts. I love how their colors fit with the background of the picture I used.

I also used the Crossing the Lines chipboard behind my photo.

That's it for today. I hope you enjoyed seeing my projects!

October projects from Zanka

Hello everybody!
I'd like to share some of my latest BFS creations with you.

'Dreaming in color'

This layout is based on one of the sheets from Deja vu which I have cut in pieces and rearranged to have most of the pattern crossing in the middle. I have covered the cuts with washi tape and chipboard pieces. The chipboards are treated with gesso and watercolours.
Chipboards:  Turkish panel, Crossing the lines.
Stamps: Halftone

'XOXO'

For this layout I have used both sides of the same sheet from Botanical Garden, to achieve contrasting yet beautifully coordinated colour layers.
Except for the title piece, the chipboards are plain. The title is painted white and embossed with BFS embossing powder Petal.
Chipboards : Lace Heart Border, Deja vu Luminaires, XOXO

Elegant Cards.
I'm ending with two simple cards, which I made of cardstock bases, pieces of Botanical Garden papers and some BFS chipboards, just slightly touched with glitter.

Chipboards : Bits of honey, Butterfly friends, Organic vine corner
Glitter: Pyrite

Thanks for stopping by today!
